Baby steps and a bit of the shakes

Upon reflection, taking baby steps in adulthood can be shakier for oneself  than for a little itty bitty taking his/hers for the first time. (probably because the little person doesn’t have expectations)   Many of us adults have had to start over either physically and/or emotionally at some time in our lives.  Now I’m at a point where I’m facing the need for baby steps with my ailing Big Red.  Next week I’ll be giving him a two minute lunge to observe his respiration rate and how he recovers.  I’m feeling uncertain about this, because I worry how he’s going to respond, physically.   If he does okay, I’ll continue on every day to test his strength and respiration.  Of course, if he shows distress, I need to re-evaluate what route we take.  I just need to go forward one step:

“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
